INTERIOR

The dashboard of a 1979 Storm. Note the wooden gear knob and leather trimmed steering wheel. The radio is a Blaupunkt Hamburg.

Fawn leather seats and door cards in combination with Schwarz metallic and Noisette brown paintwork.

Leather trimmed door cards with storage bin containing a speaker aperture.

Black leather in conjunction with Silver green paint. Even the gear lever gaiter is leather trimmed. Mk1 Storms came deep pile carpets.

The Storm also included tinted glass, remote adjust external mirrors, clock and oil temperature gauge in the centre console. As mentioned before, much of the specification is the same as the GLS, which itself was loaded for its time. Factory fitted front fog lights and headlamp washers were an extra cost option.

Above is the interior of a Hellblau re-issue Mk1 Storm. This came with blue leather trim and blue deep pile carpeting. The boot area is also fully carpeted in a Mk1 Storm.

Only 618 were sold in the UK. Mk1 production ended in 1981. The Storm name would be revived in 1984 with the release of the new Mk2 Scirocco Storm and again with the Corrado Storm. Since the introduction of the Mk3 Scirocco in 2008, VW UK have yet to create a Storm version.
